Which is Better: Be the Judge between Dermabrasion and Microdermabrasion

06 Aug

It has been years since the cosmetic industry has accepted that dermabrasion is one of the most effective ways to improve complexion. This procedure is described as the surgical controlled wearing away for the upper skin layers with sandpaper or other mechanical devices. The purpose of this procedure is to smoothen the skin and remove facial scars like the ones, which was caused by acne. Others would like to get rid of their birthmarks, tattoos, sun damage, stretch marks, age spots or fine wrinkles.

Dermabrasion has become popular because it is far affordable and has the same results like that of the laser method. On the other hand, this process also has some disadvantages since it can only exfoliate the skin for about 15-25 micrometers and therefore it cannot be used for deep wrinkles. Moreover, the procedure has some side effects or complications. Those who would like to try this will experience dryness, sensitivity to sunlight and bruising temporarily on the area, which is being treated. Another process, which is accepted as a part of the cosmetic industry practices, is that of the microdermabrasion.

Much like dermabrasion, the microdermabrasion is a procedure that uses a mechanical device for exfoliation. This removes the dead skin cells from the epidermis although at a minimal rate. This is different from dermabrasion since it is non-evasive and may be done without the use of anesthetic.

Some variations make use of glycolic acid and salicylic acid in order for the skin to peel.  Some who have sensitive skin are advised to first consult a professional before opting to undergo the microdermbrasion process to ensure that they are safe from the possible side effects of the acids that were used.

In addition, the recovery time for dermabrasion takes about several weeks up to some months while microdermabrasion client’s recovery time is just about two days. Those who have had the procedure are advised to stay away from direct sunlight since this can cause severe damage to the raw skin. Some dermatologists would require their clients to use sunscreen in order to protect the skin from the harsh environment irritants.

I like this article a lot. I have done laser treatments, dermabrasion and now use an at home device from here.

It seems to have dullled my acne scarring some from when I was a kid. I know I can get rid of the scarring but it seems to have faded a bit.

Please keep sending me blogs Bev and go girl…..:)
